Why is Brain surgery performed?

Brain surgery is done to correct mechanical irregularities in the brain. These can originate due to a birth deformity, disease, trauma, or other predicaments. Brain surgery may be needed when there is:

• Injury to the protective tissue called the “dura”

Spinal Treatments

Spinal Tumors

A spinal tumor is an unusual mass of tissue within or enclosing the spinal cord. These bodies grow and multiply uncontrollably, presumably unchecked by the mechanisms that control normal cells. Spinal tumors could be both benign or malignant in nature.

Cervical Disc Prolapse

A herniated cervical disk or cervical disc prolapse is one of the most common intricacies of neck pain. If the disk is pushing on a nerve root, other symptoms which can arise include:

• Numbness or tingling in a shoulder your fingers
• Weakness in a hand or arm

Lumbar Disc Prolapse

The most common symptoms of herniated disk in lumbar area includes:

• Arm or leg pain
• Numbness or tingling
• Weakness

Spinal Injuries

The highest percentage of Spinal Cord Injuries are sports-related. Next, to follow in the injury list are auto accidents, falls, and gunshots.

Symptoms

• Lack of movement
• Damage or altered sensation, including the ability to feel heat, cold and touch
• Loss of bowel or bladder control
• Magnified reflex activities or spasms
• Variations in sexual function, sexual sensitivity, and fertility
• Trouble in breathing, coughing, or clearing secretions from your lungs

Verteboplasty & Kyphoplasty

Both the procedures are for strengthening and cementing the affected vertebrae. The cement-strengthened vertebra enables you to stand straight, decreases your pain, and limits further fractures. If you leave the patient without treatment, the fractures will ultimately heal, but in a collapsed position. The advantage of kyphoplasty is that the vertebra is rendered to a normal position before the bone hardens. Patients who have undergone kyphoplasty report less pain after the treatment.

Individuals who have painful vertebral compression fractures can undergo Vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty

• Individuals with osteoporosis or depletion of calcium in bones
• Individuals with metastatic tumor
• Individuals with multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow)
• Individuals with vertebral hemangioma (benign vascular tumor)
